Reflections on two years of study at the University of British Columbia as a CSC visiting student

Abstract: The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is an institution aiming to improve the training of creative and distinguished postgraduates and enhance the development of China’s higher education. Over the past several years, CSC has sponsored many talented Chinese students for overseas study. From September 2019 to August 2021, Mr. Wei Zhang was sponsored by CSC to perform two years of research work at the Manufacturing Automation Laboratory (MAL) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) as a visiting Ph.D. student, supervised by Prof. Yusuf Altintas. In this presentation, a brief introduction of MAL and UBC will be given. A systematic report about his research work on the integrated modelling of ball screw feed drive system and milling process will also be made. Besides, the living and cultural experience in Canada will also be presented.

Bio Sketch: Wei Zhang is a Ph.D. student in Professor Wanhua Zhao’s group in the School of mechanical Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China. He was sponsored by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to conduct two years of research as a visiting Ph.D. student from September 2019 to August 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Yusuf Altintas at the Manufacturing Automation Laboratory (MAL) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). His research focuses on the integrated modelling of ball screw feed drive system and milling process.
