Abstract
Taking advantages of high-precision positioning, short response time, high-bandwidth as well as considerable actuation forces, piezoelectric stack actuators have been widely used in the fields of high speed nano-positioning stages and precision systems. However, piezoelectric materials suffer from inevitable inadequacies, including small output displacements and low tolerance to shear or tensile forces. To overcome these problems, a structure capable of preloading a piezoelectric actuator and amplifying the output displacement is required. This paper presents a piezoelectric-based scanning system which composed by an optimized star flexure hinge and a piezoelectric stack actuator. The motion differential equation and the vibration equation of the system were derived. The static, kinematic and dynamic models of the system were established and analyzed. The critical dimensional parameters of the flexible hinge were optimized. According to the assumption, the polarization and strain of piezoelectric stack were decomposed into reversible and irreversible parts. The electromechanical coupling characteristics of the system would be evaluated by the finite element method. After that the nonlinear constitutive modeling of piezoelectric stack would be discussed.
